Beautiful Girl

A "panel of experts" have put together a list of the 100 most beautiful women "of all time" (ie the last 60 years). I guess there's an expert for everything these days - we need "properly qualified" people to tell us who is beautiful?? Hmm. Anyways, seeing this list reminded me of a conversation I've had a few times with friends - that for me, beauty is intricately tied up with personality. I suppose there is some objective element to judging beauty - obviously figure and skin play a big part, and psychologists say it's all to do with facial symmetry, but so often I find that as I get to know someone better, somehow I think of them as more (or less) attractive than I initially did.

I think personality affects my view of celebrities' looks as well - for example, I think Cate Blanchett and Kate Winslet are two of the most gorgeous actresses, which I'm sure is influenced by my perception that they are "classier" and more cultured than actresses like Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Aniston and Julia Roberts (who I'd rate waaaay lower than they are).

And what is it that makes Audrey Hepburn the most beautiful woman ever? I wouldn't disagree with putting her at number one, but I'm not quite sure why - I think for me, again, it has more to do with her "class" than her actual physical looks...
